Series Finale of Extreme TONIGHT!

Posted on January 13th, 2012

Tonight, after 9 seasons and hundreds of houses, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs it’s 200th and final episode.

The long-running reality show has numerous widely-recognized moments, such Ty and his bullhorn yelling “Good Morning” to surprise each family and the “Move That Bus!” chant at the end of every episode. EM:HE, which has brought hundreds of thousands of volunteers together in communities all across the country to help incredible families and causes, is easily the leading show in the vein of feel-good have-the-tissues-ready reality TV. “Ultimately what the show is about is stepping up to help a neighbor,” says Brady Connell, who exec-produces the show with George Verschoor. “Everyone knows that’s what America is all about.”

Tonight’s episode was filmed in Joplin, Missouri, which was hit by an apocalyptic EF5 tornado in May that tore a 1-mile wide path of destruction through almost 15 miles of the city. Ty and the designers usually build one house, but the series ends in a very extreme way- with 21 builders and over 13,000 volunteers building 7 houses in 7 days!

So don’t miss this incredible episode tonight at 8/7c on ABC!

Extreme Makeover hits season highs on ABC

Posted on January 9th, 2012

Despite the recent announcement that the long-running feel-good reality show will not be renewed, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition hit season-high ratings this past Friday, helping ABC to another strong night.

via press release:

Jumping week to week in Total Viewers (+48%) and Adults 18-49 (+40%), ABC hit an 11-week high on Friday night despite facing the Cotton Bowl on Fox – since 10/21/11. In fact, it was the Net’s 2nd-strongest Friday night this season on both Nielsen measures.

At 8 o’clock, ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition took second against its non-sports competition, beating NBC’s first-run Chuck by 2.0 million viewers and by 40% in Adults 18-49.

* Up sharply over its most recent telecast 3 weeks ago, Home Edition generated season-highs for ABC in the time period with viewers and young adults.

Building on its lead-in at 9pm, a second installment of Home Edition ran neck-and-neck with CBS’ original CSI: NY among Adults 18-49 (pacing within 2-tenths of a rating point and tied in audience share), while beating the CBS drama by 10% among Adults 18-34.

* Scoring its 2nd-highest-ever numbers on Friday, Home Edition turned in a best-since-premiere performance on the evening with viewers and young adults – since 10/21/11.

The Emmy Award winning reality program Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, now in its 9th season, is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It is executive-produced by Brady Connell and George Verschoor. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America. The show airs Fridays from 8:00-10:00 p.m., ET on ABC.

Tomorrow night at 8/7c on ABC- as part of Extreme Makeover’s last two episodes, Ty Pennington and the team will visit the Gibbs family in Fayette County, Iowa. Mere months after her husband died, Audrey Gibbs survived several brain aneurysms that left her legally blind, deep in medical debt, and unable to keep her job. Even as their old farmhouse crumbles around them and her eyesight gets worse, this determined mother of 6 will do whatever it takes to raise her kids the right way. Can Ty and the team build both a new house and a brighter future for this hard-working family in the heartland?
