A Quiet Reveal

Posted on November 7th, 2011

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is known for drawing a huge crowd chanting ‘move that bus’ when we first reveal the home to a family.  But this past Friday night was slightly different.

SSgt. Allen Hill, who was nearly being killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq, struggles with PTSD- which is triggered by crowds and noise.  So, in an unusual and touching moment, Ty Pennington got the crowd to be quiet for this special ‘reveal’ of the Hill family’s new home.

As noted by AOL’s Laura Prudom, “few makeovers are as poignant and relevant as last week’s renovation.”  You can watch the incredibly moving ‘reveal’ here.

TV Guide: 2-Hour Reality Shows are here to stay

Posted on October 7th, 2011

TV Guide recently interviewed George about the increasing number of two-hour broadcasts in unscripted programming.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition executive producer George Verschoor says he relishes doing more expanded episodes: “In my show we always have far more content and extreme elements than can fit. Having the time in two hours to tell the story does present some challenges, but we make sure we format the show and pace it in order to keep the audience tuned in throughout the whole structure of the two hours.”

Help us “Stand Together” against Bullying

Posted on September 17th, 2011

This week, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is building a home for the Walker family of Springfield, Massachusetts. Carl Walker took his own life at the age of 11 after being repeatedly bullied at school. Ever since, his mother has been a tireless force in her community, working to raise awareness of bullying and hoping to prevent another tragedy like the one her family is going through.

You can help us Stand Together with the Walker family, and it only takes a few minutes. Go to www.standtogether.tv and take the pledge! We’re hoping that 10,000 people will do it, showing the Walker family that their efforts are making a difference.
